Here is a list of whiskies that I’ve consumed over the years and noted them enough to at least provide a very basic opinion on.  Unfortunately, I’ve only recently been writing down “reviews” of of whiskies. Many of these bottles will have reviews in the future…..if they are worth purchasing again.


 

Scotch:

 

Aberlour A’Bunadh #34 - Excellent

Aberlour A’Bunadh #61 - Good - beware batch variation with A’Bunadh these days

An Cnoc 12yr - Good

Ardbeg Corryvreckan - Excellent

Ardbeg Uigeadail - Excellent but beware batch variation

Ardbeg 10yr - Excellent, great value

Ardbeg Kelpie - Excellent

Ardbeg Perpetuum - Good but wouldn’t purchase again.  Not up to Ardbeg standards

Ardbeg An Oa - Good

Ardmore - Good but probably wouldn’t purchase again...nothing wrong with it - just not for me

Arran 10yr - Good - I remember this being really sweet

Arran 14yr - Excellent

Asyla (Compass Box) - Good and sweet, good value

Auchentoshan 12 - Decent, not a bad whisky just not for me.

Auchentoshan American Wood - Decent but not for me

Balvenie 12yr Single Barrel - Good but prices vary

Balvenie 14yr Caribbean Cask - Decent but not for me and way overpriced  now

Balvenie 15yr Single Barrel Bourbon Cask - Excellent but discontinued

Balvenie 15yr Sherry Cask - Excellent

Balvenie 17yr Doublewood - Very good but not sure it’s worth the price these days

Balvenie 10yr Founders Reserve - Discontinued but was a good deal at $40

Bank Note 5yr Blend - Good blend and excellent for the $25 price tag

BenRiach Curiositas 10yr - I like BenRiach but wasn’t a huge fan of this one

Black & White Blend - Not that good but it was cheap so fine for the price

Benromach 10yr Port Pipes - Very Good.  This is a weird one but I like this one.

Bowmore 18yr - Good but expense - not worth the $100+ price tag

Bowmore 18yr (BBR indy bottle) - Good

Bowmore 11yr  (Classic Cask) - Excellent

Bowmore 12yr - Decent but I won’t purchase again

Bruichladdich Rocks - Good but probably wouldn’t buy again.  A little expensive for what it is.

Bunnahabhain 12yr - Good

Bunnahabhain 18yr - Excellent

Bunnahabhain Toiteach - Good but expensive for what it is

Bunnahabhain 8yr (G&M) unpeated - Decent but probably won’t get again

Bunnahabhain 6yr Moine Very Cloudy (Signatory 2011) - Good but won’t get again

Caol Ila 10yr (G&M Connoisseurs Choice) - Good but expensive.  

Caol Ila 12yr - Very Good but expensive

Clynelish 14yr - Very Good but expensive

Cragganmore 12yr - Good but probably won’t get again

Dalwhinnie 15yr - Good but not rushing out to get another bottle.

Deanston 12 - Good and affordable craft presentation

Deanston 18yr Bourbon Cask - Very good.  Expensive but good.

Deanston Virgin Oak - Decent from what I can remember - it’s been a long time.  Not planning on buying it again

Eades Highland Double Malt - Good and Unique.  Would purchase again if I can find it.

Finlaggan VM - Decent for a cheap young peat fix.  

Glendronach 12yr - Very good sherry bomb.  Prices vary.

Glenfarclas 105 - Very good cask strength sherry bomb.  Becoming more and more expensive

Glenfarclas 12yr - Good and affordable

Glenfarclas 18yr - Very good but limited to Travel Retail or auctions

Glen Moray 10yr Chardonnay (fully matured in chardonnay) - Good and affordable but discontinued.  Now they make a Chardonnay finish which I haven’t tried and have no plans.

Glen Moray 18yr - Good and relatively affordable (under $100) with craft presentation

Glen Moray Port Cask Finish - Decent, Young, Cheap, not buying again

Glen Moray 9yr CWC Exclusive Casks - Excellent

Glenlivet 16yr Nadurra - Excellent and worth the effort if you can still find the age stated ones. Haven’t tried the newer NAS with inflated prices and have no plans on purchasing

Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve - Good but probably won’t get again.  I think this is a Travel Retail exclusive

Great King Street Artists Blend (Compass Box) - Very good and affordable.

Great King Street Glasgow Blend (Compass Box) - Very good and affordable.

Highland Park 12yr - Used to be good but I don’t care much for HP anymore.

Highland Park 15yr - Not Good, Very Disappointed

Juveniles (Compass Box) - Very good but expensive like all CB Limited Editions.

Lagavulin 8yr CWC Exclusive Casks - Excellent

Laphroaig NAS CWC Exclusive Regions Islay - good

Linkwood 18yr CWC Exclusive Casks - Excellent, worth the hefty price tag.

Islay Mist 8yr  - A decent blend but probably not going to purchase again

Johnnie Walker 10yr Rye Cask Finish - Good, quite a nice effort by JW.  Almost a craft presentation!

Johnnie Walker 12yr Black Label - A good solid blend.

Johnnie Walker Double Black - Another good blend featuring a little more Caol Ila than the original Black Label

Johnnie Walker 15yr Green Label - Very good malt blend

Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Wine Cask - Decent but not going to purchase again.  It’s priced right for what it is.

Kilchoman Machir Bay - Very Good

Kilchoman Loch Gorm - Excellent but expensive

Kilchoman Sanaig - Very Good

Kilchoman Single Barrel - I have had a few excellent Kilchoman SB’s.  I would assume there is a bad one out there somewhere but I have only had good experiences with Kilchoman

Kilkerran 12yr  - Excellent

Lagavulin 8yr - Very good

Lagavulin 16yr - Very good but have definitely had some duds.  Beware batch variance

Lagavulin 16yr DE - Very good

Lagavulin 12yr - Excellent

Lagavulin 9yr GOT - Decent but my least favorite of all the Lags.

Laphroaig 10yr - Very good and affordable

Laphroaig 10yr CS - Excellent

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 - Very good

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015 - Excellent

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2016 Madeira -  Very good - odd but good

Laphroaig Quarter Cask - Usually very good but beware batch variance

Laphroaig Triple Wood - Very Good

Laphroaig PX Cask - Odd but Good

Laphroaig 18 yr - Excellent but discontinued

Ledaig 10yr - Decent back when I had it, I’ve heard it’s better now.

Longrow NAS - Decent but won’t purchase again

Longrow Red 12yr Pinot Noir Cask - Excellent - takes a bit to open up but it’s really nice

Macallan 9yr (GM Speymalt) - Average at best.  I won’t purchase again.

Machrie Moor Cask Strength (Arran) - Very good, will certainly purchase again

Monkey Shoulder - Decent but I probably won’t get it again.

Oak Cross (Compass Box) - Very good.

Oban 14yr - This one was an early favorite of mine.  It’s still good but prices are out of control now

Oban 14yr DE - Like the original it’s good but way overpriced.  Not for me

Old Pulteney 12 - Very good and affordable.  Great value

Old Pulteney 17 - Excellent but discontinued.

Old Pulteney Navigator - Decent but probably won’t by again.  The 12yr is much better and at a similar price

Port Charlotte Peat Project (Bruichladdich) - Very good but prices are high now

Scapa 16 - Good but not worth the high price tag.

Smokey Joe - I don't remember too much about this but I don’t recall it being bad.

Speyburn 10 - Good for the price.  Not really for me.

Springbank 12yr CS - Bad, perhaps a bad batch but this one is bad….and I like Springbank but I’m not getting this one again

Stronachie 18yr AD Rattray - Good for the price ($70ish)

Talisker 10yr - Very Good but beware batch variance

Talisker 10yr DE - Excellent.  The best of Diageo’s DE line in my opinion

Talisker 18yr - Excellent.  Prices are out of control now but when you could grab it for under $150 it’s worth it

Talisker Storm - Good but a lot of price variance with this one too.  I’ve seen it as low as $35 and as high as $70. This is a decent whisky for under $50.  If you have to pay more go for the 10yr old.

Tamdhu 8yr (GM) - Good and affordable

Tamdhu 24yr (AD Rattray) - Excellent

Teachers Highland Cream  - I don’t remember liking this one too much but it was cheap.  

The Lost Blend (Compass Box) - Excellent but expensive like most CB Limited Edition’s

The Peat Monster (Compass Box) - Good and affordable

Tomatin 14yr Port Cask Finish - Excellent.  I really enjoyed this one.  


Bourbon/Rye:

 

Amador Double Barrel - Decent but not for me.  I won’t buy again

Bakers - Very Good and often overlooked.

Bib & Tucker - Very good but another gimmicky bottle

Booker’s - Excellent but prices vary quite a bit

Bulleit Rye - Good 95/5 MGP.  Fair price

Eagle Rare 10yr - Very Good and affordable

Elijah Craig 12yr - Excellent if you can find any of the age stated bottles.  The new NAS is decent but I’m not buying the nas bottlings. Keep an eye out for single barrel offerings, they are probably good choices.

Evan Williams 9yr Single Barrel - Pretty Good and affordable

Four Roses Small Batch - Very Good and affordable

Four Roses Single Barrel - Excellent and affordable

George Dickel Rye - Don’t remember too much about this one but nothing negative stands out.  

Henry McKenna 10yr - Good but not for me.  Nothing wrong with it but didn’t leave me wanting another bottle

High West American Prairie Reserve - Good but not for me.

High West Double Rye - Very good and affordable.  I really enjoyed this Rye blend.

High West Rendezvous Rye - Very good but expensive.  Not worth the money imo but a good whiskey

James E Pepper 1776 Rye - Good solid MGP Rye.  It’s been a while but I don’t remember the price being bad on this one.

Knob Creek 9yr - The age stated 9yr is Excellent.  I haven’t tried the NAS bottlings.

Knob Creek 9yr Single Barrel - Excellent.  Good news is the SB’s are still age stated.  Look for these but beware batch variation….but I haven’t had a bad one

Dancing Goat Limousine Rye - Not Good.  I took a chance on this bottle and it really didn’t do much for me.  Won’t purchase again.

Lot 40 (canadian rye)  - Good and affordable.  No problems purchasing again.

McCarthy’s Oregon 3yr - Not Good.  I appreciate what they are trying to do but this has no business being in a bottle yet…..and it’s expensive.  Not buying this again.

Noah’s Mill - Excellent when it was 15yrs old but the current NAS is still really nice.  

Rittenhouse Rye - Good and Cheap.  I probably won’t buy it again but it’s good value for the money

Russell’s Reserve 6yr Rye - Excellent.  It’s expensive now but it’s really nice.

Stagg Jr. - Excellent but price varies.  I can usually find it for $45 but also see it for $70

W.L. Weller Special Reserve - Good and affordable but grab the 107 for a small bump in price.

Old Weller Antique 107 - Very good wheated bourbon and well worth the price.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed - Very good and affordable

Willett Pot Still Reserve - Excellent but you pay extra for the gimmicky bottle.


India:

 

Amrut Kadhambam - Good but too expensive for what it is.  Not on par with other Amruts

Amrut Portonova - Excellent, Expensive but Excellent

Paul John Select Cask - Excellent

Paul John Edited - Very Good and value for money.

Paul John Peated Select Cask - Very Good.


Irish:

 

Bushmills 10yr - Good.  It’s really sweet and affordable.  Not really for me but not bad

Glendalough 7yr - Good but expensive.  I enjoyed it but not for over $50

Jameson Black Barrel - Decent and affordable.  Easy drinker.

Knappogue Castle 14yr TwinWood - Very Good when I got it for $60.  I think the prices are up to $80 now.  

Tullamore Dew Phoenix - Very Good and relatively affordable for what it is.


Japan:

 

Hibiki 12yr - Excellent but discontinued.

Hibiki Harmony - Very good but expensive now.  I won’t pay the current outrageous prices.

Taketsuru Pure Malt - Very good and still affordable.
